Don’t Listen to Movie Stars’ Opinions About Much of Anything
When I was a kid I loved movie stars. I cut their photos out of movie magazines (that’s what we had back in my day) and taped them to my closet doors. (Only place mom allowed me to do it.)
Our family went to the movies every Friday night. Sometimes I went to matinees with my friends.
My father worked for Paramount and loved to tell us how awful different stars we liked really were–how they acted on and off the set, how they treated anyone they thought a bit lower in status than they were, lack of morals and so on. At that time, I didn’t really care–and probably thought my dad was exaggerating.
In case you misunderstand, I do believe everyone has a right to their own opinion. But what galls me is to hear a big name movie star speak out on TV like he is an expert about–you name it, politics, global warming, religion, family, the economy, how to fix whatever our problems are or he or she thinks they may be.
Thanks to all the magazines we have now, we know that my dad was right, most of these people don’t behave on or off the set, and have an alarming lack of morals. Frankly, I wonder about some of their intelligence. Just because someone has a beautiful face, body, talent that doesn’t necessarily equal brains. (If you want to know the truth, I feel the same way about most of the politicians.)
For instance, what right does someone who lives in a big house (and probably owns more than one) with who knows how many big screen TVs and other appliances that use up all kinds of electricity and drive and own multiple cars, and maybe fly his or her own airplane wherever they want to go, to tell me or you that we need to conserve, start walking instead of driving, well you get the idea.
None of these folks live in the real world–the world we all live in. They have no understanding of the problems the rest of us face in our day-to-day lives.
I’ve gotten it off my chest and I feel much better.
Might as well let me know what really bugs you.

I'm with you, Marilyn. And not only do they tell you to stop wasting electricity, they want you to save all the kittens and puppies, too. Now I love kittens and puppies as much as the next person, but when 10 year olds are being forced into war or have to support their grandparents because their parents died of aids, it's hard to get worked up about pets at the local shelter. Not only do they not live in our world, I'm not sure they know what is really going on in it either. The number of people living below the poverty line in developed countries is higher than it's ever been, but the minute some random star holds a press conference and is all outraged because of seal hunting in Canada, and that gets world coverage?
My thing is the litigiousness of our society. I just heard two stories of people suing airlines…one for 5 million because of a lost bag and the other because of a baby crying on the plane. The woman says she suffered hearing loss as a result.
Now my question is HOW IS THAT THE AIRLINE'S FAULT?!!! It's a baby. Babies cry. But to sue over it?
And 5 mil for a lost bag? Hello?
I just don't get people sometimes.
What I'm really tired of is celebrities making headlines. I yearn for the days when you had to purposefully look for info on celebs to find it (like, buying People or the Enquirer at the grocery store checkout). Now it seems I can't go online without seeing crotch shots of some actress or another, viewing endless photos of Lady Gaga in bra and panties shooting the bird at a Yankees game, or getting salacious details on CNN, ESPN, and everywhere else about another athlete/actor/rapper's latest indiscretions. Enough already. Ugh.
Bravo! Yes just because they're famous doesn't mean they're any smarter (or at all?) I like celebrities but they should shut up and keep their opinions and weird beliefs to themselves! ha!
And the other end of the "dumb" spectrum – everyone out to make a quick buck. Why? Because judges no longer do their jobs!!! How many levels of dumb are there in our society? Oh, only the "law-abiding" people going by the rules, right? haa!
Great thoughts everyone.
