Percolating…
Percolate. It’s a great word.
When I was a kid, coffee percolated in a big silver pot. The
lid was black with a clear knob and every so often a bubble of coffee would
rise high enough to be visible.

I imagine those coffee bubbles—coming, soon, just be
patient—kept my parents sane in the mornings.

I feel that way about writing. Things percolate and then,
like magic, a bubble appears. Not just any bubble, but a brilliant,
almost-as-good-as-the-first-cup-of-coffee bubble.

So, right now I’m percolating on book three of the Country
Club murders. I know where, I know how…the rest is percolating.

And with this book, I aske for help. I decided I wanted
to set a scene at the Waldo Astoria (and no, that’s not a typo.) There’s a
neighborhood in Kansas City called Waldo and in the 70s and 80s the Waldo
Astoria was home to a dinner theater. I asked the members of a Kansas City
nostalgia page for their memories and…well, let’s just say ‘percolate’. Mouse.
Carving knife. Full theater. Could be Ellison is in for another bad date…

Julie Mulhern is a Kansas City native who grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie. She spends her spare time whipping up gourmet meals for her family, working out at the gym and finding new ways to keep her house spotlessly clean–and she’s got an active imagination. Truth is–she’s an expert at calling for take-out, she grumbles about walking the dog and the dust bunnies under the bed have grown into dust lions.
Her first romance was a finalist in the 2014 Golden Heart® contest. That book, A Haunting Desire, will release July 28, 2015.
Julie also writes mysteries. The Deep End (available now) is her first mystery and is the winner of The Sheila Award. Look for book two, Guaranteed to Bleed, in October, 2015.
