I confess to two sinful passions: shoes and books. I’m a sucker for any pair of shoes that fit
me. Luckily, size six AAA flat feet that are only comfortable in low heels limit the number of shoes with my name on them. This allows me use
my money to indulge my second obsession – buying books, especially
mysteries. Consequently, how could I say
no to marrying heels and murder every second and fourth Friday through The
Stiletto Gang’s blog? It is a perfect
match for me J.

But then I started to worry about you. What engages you? Obviously, prattling about my love of shoes
and books will quickly bore you. So, what to write about?
and books will quickly bore you. So, what to write about?
Describing me can pretty much be summed up in a few words: judge, litigator, author, wife, mother of
twins, step-mom, civic volunteer, transplanted Yankee and a woman who hates to
be pigeon-holed. My writings are equally
diverse. That’s why my personal blog is
called “It’s Not Always a Mystery.” (http://DebraHGoldstein.wordpress.com)

Spending a lot of words telling you about how Harlequin Worldwide Mysteries
will be issuing my 2012 IPPY Award winning debut novel, Maze in Blue, a mystery set on the University of Michigan’s campus
in the 1970’s, as its May 2014 selection seems a waste of time because you can
read about that on my website, www.DebraHGoldstein.com. The same holds true for introducing you to my non-fiction pieces including “More Hugs Less Fear” that was published by More Magazine online, my short
stories like “Legal Magic,” “Malicious Mischief,” “Grandma’s Garden” or this
month’s Bethlehem Writers Roundtable featured
story “A Political Cornucopia” (www.bwgwritersroundtable.com

I could share funny anecdotes about having four children, a
husband whose blood runs Crimson, how I reacted when my book publisher ceased
operations the week I was on my first Malice Domestic panel and had speaking
engagements lined up for the next six months or balancing my legal career with
writing, but I’d prefer to know what interests you. Whether something personal from my website,
my Tom Sawyer philosophy, or why I think networking is almost as important as
getting words on paper are all possible topics.

Let’s make this fun – I’ll spend the next few
days thinking about shoes and books while you take a look at my website and stories and leave me comments on The Stiletto Gang Blog about your preferred topics. As an incentive, I will randomly pick a name
and theme from your comments and send that person a free copy of Maze in Blue. Check back on November 22 to see who won and what the blog topic turns out to be.

Hi, Debra, so happy to meet you! No longer interested much in shoes–they just need to be comfortable, but definitely buy way too many books–but that's a good thing.
Marilyn,
Thank you for the warm welcome. I love reading your posts here and on facebook — all of them show how comfortable you are in your own shoes. I'm also glad to identify with someone who understands having way too many books! dhg
I haven't bought a pair of shoes in years. I could supply a shoestore with all that I have. I'm in the process of weeding through them and either throwing them out or donating ones I've barely worn and won't wear. Not my favorite purchase. But I've sure bought a lot of ebooks. Love my Kindle.
Polly,
I know the feeling. I recently donated a number of shoes – and the closet still seems full. I do hope someone enjoys the pair of snowboots I donated – only worn four or five times after I moved from snowland to the sunny south. Debra
Hi, Debra! Thanks for letting us know you'll be blogging here in addition to your own personal blog. Looking forward to it!
Appreciate you stopping by today. Keep reading…btw, looking forward to reading a new story by you sooner than later. Debra
I always like books that are set in exotic places. This is probably because I like to travel, and reading about a place that I have not been is almost as good as being there.
Well Ann, if you are the one I randomly pick, I might just have to write my blog about some of my "accidental" adventures in China, the Vatican, or in D.C.
Ah, Debra, I think something on how you manage your time would be in order. You do so many things—and everything I've seen was done well. When folks pull out that old adage, "Everybody gets the same number of hours in a day," I always think I must need more of them to sleep than some of them!
Molly…you of all people more than than use the hours allocated to us. I'm in awe of all you do. I only wish I could balance about half of what you accomplish…Thank you for being part of my first day on The Stiletto Blog – it means a lot. Debra
Nice to see you here, Debra. You're one of my favorite writing world folks (A name in common helps!) I'd be interested in reading how a transplanted Yankee hooked up with a hubby whose blood runs crimson (I think you mean Crimson Tide, and not Harvard Crimson, right?)
Ah yes, Nick Saban actually hangs on our wall (in my husband's den)…..and that says a lot because Joel has a lot of houndstooth, too. Thanks for your kind words…..Debra

As I read your blog, I smiled and felt connection. Your writing engages people. You smoothly relate familiar situations that touch the heart. I'd like to hear more about the most memorable people you have encountered in your various roles. I'm looking forward to your next blog already!
Rachel,
Thank you for your kind words. There are a number of people who come to mind……
Hi Debra-
Stories about Joel…if they don't threaten your marriage!
I won't tell him……..of course, the rest of you will have to keep them quiet, too!
Hi Debra, You are so active and involved in so many things. Do you ever have couch potato days? With everything you do, you probably don't have many or maybe you know some way to get motivated on those days. If so, please share! Beth.
Couch Potato? One of my favorite things to be. 🙂
Excellent post, Debra! Looking forward to seeing more of you here.
Thanks for your comments. Looking forward to seeing more of your comments reacting to future posts.
As for shoes, I wish I could wear tennis shoes everywhere, and do so as much as possible. Now books is another thing. I can't resist buying them and they are fast taking over my house. I just wish I could read them all. Like you my blogs cover all sorts of topics. I think that makes a blog more interesting.
Gloria,
That's the beauty of shoes and books — comfort but variety for all. I agree with you that covering all sorts of topics is what makes things interesting for all of us. Thanks for leaving a comment. Debra
